LIFE IN THE ROLE 

Reporting to the Randwick Racecourse Manager, this permanent full-time role is responsible for maintaining the course proper, training tracks, and grounds at Royal Randwick Racecourse, ensuring they are always presented in the best possible condition. This position plays a vital role in the success of our carnival race days and in creating a memorable experience for all who attend. 

  •  1 x Groundsperon position
  • Plus opportunities for individuals who prefer to join casually

Key accountabilities of the role include: 

  • Undertake general maintenance work including labouring, cleaning, tracks, gardens and maintenance instructions 
  • Operate plant equipment such as tractors, mowers, front end loader forklift, power sweepers, power harrows, brush cutters, hedgers, push mowers and general spray operations 
  • Conduct routine maintenance of turf, synthetic, artificial and other surfaces 
  • Working hours on non-race days: 8:30 – 5:00pm  
  • Race day vs non-race day roster. During a race week you will work Tue-Sat, when it’s not a race week the work will be Mon-Fri

 

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in the role, the right fit will possess:

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role, preferably in turf management is preferred but not required  
  • General operational and mechanical maintenance skills
  • Appropriate licences to operate specialist machinery such as a manual vehicle, front end loader and forklifts preferred but not required 
  • Experience in operating plant and equipment including Bobcat, Grader and Excavator would be desirable
  • Sound knowledge and practical experience of handling and spraying chemicals
  • A demonstrable ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Sound verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Enjoy working outdoors  
  • A can do attitude
